Missy for Sumfest 2006
Missy Elliott is one of the biggest female artistes in contemporary music today. She has worked her way up in the music industry tallying a plethora of awards for her music and talent. This mega star has been booked to perform as the second Red Stripe Star Performer for Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest this July.
Elliott will headline Saturday nights' show the 'Summit' on July 22 and will share the stage with stars like Rihanna, Damian Marley, Beres Hammond, Buju Banton and Gentleman. She is expected to deliver an entertaining, energetic and flamboyant performance in her usual style in July. Details
Double trouble for Sumfest
It will be 'double trouble' come Saturday, July 22, when two musical luminaries prepare to enthrall the audience at Red Stripe Reggae Sumfest. The soulful musical genius Beres Hammond and dancehall gargamel Buju Banton will create a stir in the Vibes City Montego Bay as two of the headline acts for The Summit. With Beres' perfect mix of reggae, R&B and lovers rock alongside the thumping dancehall and roots rock sounds of Buju Banton, this show is already poised to be one of the biggest and best to date. Damian Marley teams up with Ben Harper for summer tour
Grammy-winner Ben Harper will be joined by triple Grammy winner, Damian 'Jr Gong' Marley, for one of this year's most festive tours. Titled Both Sides Of The Gun after harper's current two-disc album, the tour will be a two-month trek which kicks off with Harper and his band, the Innocent Criminals as headliner on August 10 in Phoenix, Arizona and winds up on September 15 in Atlanta.
The tour will make stops in Los Angeles, Chicago, and New York among other cities.
Harper will perform some of perennial favourites as well as songs from the new release. Marley, accompanied by his five piece band, two backup singers, and flag man will be performing songs from his Grammy- winning album, Welcome To Jamrock, as well as tracks off of his first album Mr Marley, and the Grammy-winning Halfway Tree. Authentic reggae from over 20 exclusive acts
With some 29 exclusive acts, bMobile Reggae Sunsplash 2006 is set to bring a new standard of concert production to the local entertainment scene.
The organisers have gone through great pains to emphasise the fact that the festival will remain true to its roots and will feature strictly Reggae acts.
The Reggae Sunsplash list of exclusive acts reads like a Reggae who's who. The elder states-persons are well represented by the likes Freddie McGregor, John Holt, Marcia Griffiths, The Tamlins and the Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, Steel Pulse, UB40.
Alpha Blondy and Maxi Priest are the big names that represent foreign-based Reggae acts. Add to those the energetic Machel Montano; Puerto Rican-born deejay Capital D, Nigeria's Victor Essiet and Cuban Diva Mey Vidal and you will get the international feel to be unfolded at Reggae Sunsplash 2006. Music festival set to rock Port Royal
AVAST, ME mates! Fire up the cannons, and alert the masses. Next month, Paradise Communications Limited, headed by Neville Blythe, will invade the sleepy town of Port Royal with the inaugural staging of the Port Royal Music Festival.
At a launch party fittingly held at the Morgan's Harbour Hotel on Friday, July 14, Paradise Communications provided details of the upcoming music festival, which is slated to rekindle the fiery flames of the historic town of the same name, over the weekend spanning Friday, August 25 to Sunday, August 27, 2006.
